Progress in grafting watermelon to manage Verticillium wilt

چکیده

Vegetable grafting for disease management was first used successfully when watermelon grafted onto a Cucurbita moschata rootstock overcame Fusarium wilt. Interspecific has since been effectively to mitigate several soilborne pathogens in variety of solanaceous and cucurbitaceous cropping systems. Verticillium wilt caused by dahliae is significant crops difficult manage. Current practices, including crop rotation, soil fumigation, host resistance, are insufficient due the ability microsclerotia persist absence host, lack efficacy fumigants, limited availability resistant cultivars. Watermelon commercial cucurbit rootstocks have increased tolerance wilt, although no known be completely resistant. incidence decreased on plants grown artificially naturally infested soils, while scion health growth as well root mass vigour increased. Commonly Lagenaria siceraria, C. moschata, maxima × moschata; these, only ‘Tetsukabuto’ reduced severity across cultivars, locations, years, densities V. dahliae. Although studies resistance few, their combined results suggest threshold density may around 5–12 cfu/g. This review summarizes available information effects different combinations, assisting growers breeding programmes decisions adopt

Intercropping with aerobic rice suppressed Fusarium wilt in watermelon

Watermelon is susceptible to Fusarium wilt in successively mono-cropped soil. Pot experiments were carried out to investigate the effect of intercropping with aerobic rice on Fusarium wilt in watermelon. The tested soil was classified as a loam soil, previously planted with watermelon and collected from Hexian county, Anhui province, China. The results obtained are listed as follows: (1) 66.7% ...

Desirable Traits of a Good Biocontrol Agent against Verticillium Wilt

The soil-borne fungus Verticillium causes serious vascular disease in a wide variety of annual crops and woody perennials. Verticillium wilt is notoriously difficult to control by conventional methods, so there is great potential for biocontrol to manage this disease. In this study we aimed to review the research about Verticillium biocontrol to get a better understanding of characteristics tha...

Genetic dissection of Verticillium wilt resistance mediated by tomato Ve1.

Vascular wilt diseases caused by soil-borne pathogens are among the most devastating plant diseases worldwide. The Verticillium genus includes vascular wilt pathogens with a wide host range. Although V. longisporum infects various hosts belonging to the Cruciferaceae, V. dahliae and V. albo-atrum cause vascular wilt diseases in over 200 dicotyledonous species, including economically important c...

Evaluation of rootstocks for watermelon grafting with reference to plant development, yield and fruit quality

The effect of grafting and post-grafting temperature on the plant development of two watermelon cultivars at transplantation and on subsequent fruit quality was studied. Watermelon cv. Sugar Baby and Crimson Sweet were self-rooted or grafted onto rootstock RS 841 F1 (Cucurbita maxima × C. moschata) or bottlegourd [Lagenaria siceraria f. clavata] (year 1), plus L. siceraria f. pyrotheca (ye...
